NWFPSA threatens to seek justice
PESHAWAR, July 27: The NWFP Swimming Association (NWFPSA) on Wednesday has termed the provincial assembly’s Standing Committee on Sports and Culture’s remarks and recommendation as illegal and one-sided.
The NWFP Assembly Standing Committee on Sports and Culture in its meeting the other day, had recommended action against the association for what it called its campaign to defame the sports board.
Talking to reporters, secretary of the NWFPSA Mohammad Asif Aurakzai, asked the committee to review its decision in the vast interest of the swimmers.
He said that the association’s point of view regarding contaminated water at the swimming pool had been validated by the laboratory’s report and the subsequent cleaning of the swimming pool by the sports directorate.
He also pointed out that water changing process at the swimming pool had been started from July 26, which had reconfirmed that the water was contaminated.
“The provincial government had no right to inflict ailments on the swimmers for the sake of money,” he said and added that people were being allowed to use swimming pool by the officials, who did not even take shower before entering into the pool causing contamination.
Mr Aurakzai, said that it was the prime responsibility of the government to provide conducive and clean environment to the players and take steps to save them from becoming victims of the ailments.
About the association’s performance, he said that it was the most dynamic body of the province, which can be gauged from the fact that it had organised two national level tournaments during the last two years.
“The government has the right to conduct audit of Rs25,000 which the association received annually,” he challenged.
He said that the association cannot be subdued through use of force and vengeful tactics and would continue to raise voice for the promotion of game in the province.
The association reserve the right to go to the court and seek compensation for the illnesses of the swimmers due to contaminated water at the pool. Aurakzai said that the government should extend its fullest cooperation to the association instead of pulling its legs.
He said that very soon, he would reveal some other facts regarding the activities of the director-general sports.
