LARKANA, July 27: A complete shutter-down strike was observed in Qambar town on Wednesday in protest against police failure to act against criminals. A procession was also taken out which was led by Usman Ghani, which after marching on main roads assembled at the Martyrs Square.

Speaking on the occasion, speakers criticised police for their failure in arresting alleged criminals who on Tuesday fired at Shahbaz Memon and Iqbal Memon while fleeing. However, they remained unhurt.

They alleged that delay in action provided room to the criminals to escape.

It was learnt that on Tuesday that the police and two suspects traded fire and attempting to skip they took shelter in a cloth house where they fired at the owners who miraculously remained unhurt.

The protesters alleged that had the police moved in quickly it would have arrested them easily.

CHALLENGED: The former members of district council and union councils have challenged the Sindh government’s decision of detaching four dehs of Ratodero taluka (Larkana) by including them in Garhi Yasin (Shikarpur) by filing a constitutional petition in Sindh High Court, circuit court Larkana on Wednesday.

Ayaz Soomro advocate filed the petition on behalf of Aijaz Leghari ex-member district council Larkana, Mumtaz Ali Chohan, Khair Mohammad Pirzado and Ghulam Nabi Rahoojo, councillors of union council Behman and Pir Bakhsh Bhutto.

It would come up for pre-admission hearing on July 29.

The petitioners maintained that without consulting the concerned MPAS’, MNAS’ and former nazims the four Dehs — Nazar Detho, Panjo Kinaro, Salar Janveri and Shadi Abro — of Ratodero taluka were included in Garhi Yasin taluka of Shikarpur district. They said that all was done to divide Larkana and so the constituency of Ms Benazir Bhutto and her vote bank.

They said that action was in total violation of section 11 of Sindh Local Government ordinance, 2001 and section 6 of Sindh Land Revenue Act 1967.

The petitioners made the Sindh government, the Secretary of Local Government, the Election Commission of Pakistan, the Board of Revenue, Sindh, and the the Provincial Election Commission as respondents.
