Training plan for SAG discussed

ISLAMABAD, July 26: A meeting to chalk out a comprehensive training programme for the South Asian Games and to discuss various modalities was held at the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) offices on Tuesday. The meeting was attended by secretaries of eight federations and officials of the national Olympic association and PSB officials.

Following through deliberations, it was decided to start training camps from Nov 15. The athletics, judo, swimming, shooting and volleyball camps are already on. The girls are also undergoing training ahead of the Women’s Islamic Games in Tehran this September.

The women, on return from Tehran will then resume training along with men. Officials said that majority of the camps will be in Islamabad and Rawalpindi while Lahore will host weightlifting, karate, cycling and judo.

The South Asian Games will take place in Colombo next year from April 18 to 28.

Attending the meeting Tuesday were the officials of athletics, cycling, judo, karate, wushu, badminton, kabaddi and taekwondo federations.

The secretaries of the rifle shooting, wrestling, boxing, rowing and weightlifting federations will have a similar meeting with the PSB head on Wednesday.
