Ghulam, Nasir in last four

KARACHI, July 26: Second seed Ghulam Abbas was stretched to the limit by Syed Mohammad Abbas in the boys’ under-17 singles of the 15th STA Talent Hunt Sindh ranking tournament played on Tuesday at the City Sports Complex.Ghulam Abbas won the first set but dropped the second by the identical scorelines of 6-4. With everthing to play for in the deciding third and final set, Ghulam Abbas produced brilliant tennis to overwhelm his rival winning the set and the match without dropping a point 6-0 to march into the semifinals.

He was joined in the semifinals by Nasir Mushtaq, Jahangir Rashid and Mateen Arif who had no such problem in disposing of their rivals in straight sets.

RESULTS:

Men’s singles (second round): Saif Noor Soomar bt Hassan Ahmed 6-2, 6-0

Girls under-17 singles: Anam Saeed bt Dania 6-1, 6-1

Boys under-17 singles (quarterfinals): Nasir Mushtaq bt Salman Ahmed 6-1, 6-1; Mateen Arif bt Sarmad 6-0, 6-0; Jahangir Rashid bt Hassan Ahmed 6-3, 6-1; Ghulam Abbas bt Syed Abbas 6-4, 4-6, 6-0

Boy’s under-15 singles (quarterfinals): Nasir Mushtaq bt Mustafa Zaidi 6-0, 6-1; Zuhair Raza vt Ahsan Bajwa 6-0, 6-0.
