Timely project completion stressed

ISLAMABAD, July 26: National Highway Authority (NHA) Chairman Gen Farrukh Javed has stressed timely and quality completion of national highways and motorways projects and said all the resources would be utilized to achieve this objective.

He was presiding over a 3-day conference of NHA general managers here on Tuesday.

He said hindrances in way of the projects would be removed at the earliest and the government was attaching great importance towards highways building sector, and the establishment of a coordinated road network was among the priorities of the government.

He asked the NHA general managers, contractors and consultants of the projects to make mutual links more effective for quality realization of highway building schemes.

Gen Farrukh expressed dissatisfaction over slow progress projects and stressed the need for mutual consultation so that the targets could be achieved timely.

The conference reviewed various aspects for the construction of Gwadar-Ratodero Motorway (M-8).

The meeting was told that work on Rahimyar Khan-TMP-Bahawalpur national highway was in progress and that 56 per cent and 61 per cent work on I & II sections of TMP.

It was told that 36km long Rajanpur-D.G Khan (Package A) project would be completed at the cost of Rs766.66 million while pace of work on Package B&C was being accelerated. It was further told that 1.10km long Sher Shah bridge project would be completed by August 2007.
