Robbers come calling for phone cards

RAWALPINDI, July 26: After mobile phones, phone calling cards also have caught the eye of robbers. Three robbers posing as customers entered a mobile phone shop in Satellite Town and looted Rs350,000 worth of calling cards at gunpoint, police said on Tuesday.

In another incident, two gunmen on a motorcycle waylaid a citizen in Westridge and robbed him of Rs220,000 he was taking to a bank to deposit.

Police identified the victim as Ejaz Ahmed.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Riaz complained to the New Town police that his motorbike (RL-9653) was stolen from outside his house. Rafiq Ahmed complained to the Waris Khan police that two unknown persons took away his car (HZ-470) after drugging his driver.

Mohammad Nazir’s car (LHR-837) was stolen from outside his house in the Civil Lines area.

Agents of the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF), acting on a tip off, seized 4kgs of heroin and arrested a woman at Rawalpindi Railway station for carrying the drug, authorities said.

The accused trafficker was identified as Zubaida Bibi, a resident of Shaheed-i-Millat Road, Karachi.

SSP ASSUMES OFFICE: Sikander Hayat, who was posted as Senior Superintendent of Police, Islamabad, in a recent shake up, assumed charge of his office on Tuesday.

Earlier, he had served as ASP City Islamabad, SP Headquarters Rawalpindi, SP Mianwali, SP Jhelum, SP Muzzafarghar, SSP Special Branch, Rawalpindi, SSP Bahawalpur and SSP Multan.
