KARACHI: City faces 40mgd water shortage

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, July 26: The water supply from Pipri’s new pump house on Tuesday remained suspended for carrying out inter-connection work of a new filter plant being set up there.

The localities which suffered on account of suspension of water supply from Pipri included Landhi, Korangi, Malir, Shah Faisal Colony, Defence, Nasir Colony, Azam Basti, Mehmood-abad and their adjoining areas.

Confirming that water supply to the city from Pipri pump house was suspended for undertaking some inter-connection of the filter plant, KWSB spokesman said the work would be completed by Tuesday evening and the affected areas would start getting normal supply from Wednesday.

Sources said that a total of 114mgd water was supplied from the old and new pumping stations of Pipri to the city. They said the city received a shortfall of around 40mgd on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, a storm drain passing through Clifton has been choked for some weeks.

According to the people residing in apartments near Boat Basin, the choked drain passing beside Masjid Farooq-i-Azam was not only presenting an ugly sight to the passers-by but could also cause outbreak of diseases. They said that despite a number of complaints lodged with the authorities concerned no action had been taken so far.
