NEW DELHI, July 25: Cricket will not figure in next year’s Asian Games in Doha, the organisers said on Monday. Al-Khulaifi said security would be tight for the Games, in which over 10,000 athletes from 45 countries are expected to take part. “We have security plans in place to provide a trouble-free games. Terrorism is a global menace and it is not just in one country,” Al-Khulaifi said. Qatar will be the first Arab country to host the continental games and he promised a spectacular event from Dec 1 to 15, 2006.

“We have a vision to produce the biggest and most successful Asian Games ever and also the most memorable one in history,” he said.—AFP
