PESHAWAR, July 25: The NWFP Assembly’s standing committee on schools and literacy department has asked the MMA-led provincial government to ensure that transfers and postings are made on merit.

The meeting, presided over by MPA Habibur Rehman at the assembly secretariat room on Monday, expressed satisfaction on the pace of development in the education sector. The participants hoped that no transfers and postings would be made on political grounds or personal likings.

The meeting was also attended by MPAs Qari Abdullah Bangash, Muktiar Ali advocate, Qazi Mohammad Asad, Naeema Akhtar, Rehana Ismail, Farha Aqil Shah, Zubaida Khatoon, additional secretary Ahmed Khan; director of schools Fazale Manan, deputy secretary law Naeem Iqbal, NWFP Assembly assistant secretary Hidayatullah, All Teachers Association president Abdus Samad Khan and others.

The meeting discussed the revision of teachers’ scales and directed the finance department to finalize the case prepared by the education department, which had already been approved by the provincial assembly.

The committee recommended to the Public Service Commission to recruit headmasters and subject specialists on vacant posts on priority basis.

The committee also directed the education department to devise a viable strategy for improving the education standard side by side with removing grievances of the teaching community.

The education department was also directed to fill the posts temporarily till the decision of the Public Service Commission and asked the establishment department to allow grade 14 to the CT teachers.
