Nominations of 201 candidates rejected

By Our Correspondent

NOWSHERA, July 25: Nomination papers of about 201 candidates for the local body polls were rejected on different grounds, after scrutiny of papers here on Monday. A total of 2,059 candidates had filed nominations for the slots of the 48 union councils of the district.

About 107 disqualified candidates have filed appeals with the district and sessions judge Nowshera, Mohammad Saleem Khan Minakhel. The court will hear the appeals on the 27th. Thirty-one nominations for nazims and naib nazims of the 217 were rejected on the grounds of default on government loans and objections to their matriculation certificates. At least 24 of them have appealed against their disqualification.

A total of 922 candidates had filed nomination papers for 192 seats of general councillors (men) in the 48 union councils. Of them 72 nominations were rejected as most of the aspirants were not registered as voters in the union councils concerned. Against the 96 women general seats, 245 women had submitted nominations, of which 30 were rejected.

For 96 seats of peasant/labour councillors, 486 candidates had filed nominations, of which 46 nominations were rejected.

For 96 seats of peasant/labour women councillors, 171 women were aspiring, but nomination papers of 21 were rejected.

For the 48 minority seats, 21 nominations had been filed, one nomination was rejected.
