KARACHI: Man held for acting as kidnap victim

KARACHI, July 25: Police and the Citizen-Police Liaison Committee arrested a young man who had staged a drama of self-kidnapping and demanded ransom from his father.

According to the police and the CPLC, Hafiz Rahim Bukhsh had reported that his son Hafiz Mohammad Ramzan had been kidnapped and the kidnappers demanded ransom for his release. A deal was struck at Rs500,000 and the father went to pay the amount near Sohrab Goth intersection.

The police raided and arrested the kidnapper, who later turned out to be Ramzan, son of Rahim Bukhsh. He had staged a drama of self-kidnapping to take the amount from his father. Ramzan was arrested and being investigated.

In Gulshan-i-Iqbal, police with the help of the CPLC arrested two men for kidnapping a child for ransom and recovered the child.

According to the police and the CPLC, three-year-old Muhammad Awais was kidnapped by some unknown persons on July 22.

The kidnappers demanded ransom and the deal was struck at Rs150,000. Subsequently, one of the kidnappers Mohammad Atiq who took the ransom near Sir Syed university was arrested after a brief shootout. He led the police and the CPLC to an apartment on Abul Hasan Isphani Road from where the child was recovered and another suspect Farid was arrested.
