FC man dies in encounter

QUETTA, July 24: A Frontier Corps man was killed in an exchange of fire with smugglers near Taftan on Sunday. An FC contingent was patrolling the Iranian border when a group of drug smugglers crossed into Pakistan.

The troops tried to intercept them but the smugglers opened fire with heavy weapons. FC men returned fire. The gun battle continued for an hour, resulting in the death of an FC man. The smugglers crossed into Iran.

ROCKET ATTACK: Two rockets were fired at a microwave station of the Pakistan Telecommunication Company near Nushki on Sunday.

According to sources, unknown people fired the rockets from nearby mountains but they missed the target.

The assailants escaped when security guards posted at the station returned fire. No loss was reported.

BOOKSELLERS ARRESTED: Police arrested two booksellers from Masjid Road on Saturday night for selling literature banned by the provincial government under Section 144.

City police raided two bookshops on a tip, seized banned literature and arrested Mohammad Akbar and Raizul Haq.

“The seized literature pertains to sectarianism and Al Qaeda,” a police officer said, adding that a case had been registered against the booksellers.
