Hat trick for King Maker

By Aftab Gilani

LAHORE, July 24: Showing a surprising turn of foot, King Maker, completed a hat trick of victories when winning the fourth race of the card edging out Key Guy Doll at the finishing line during Lahore Summer Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday.

The six-year-old chestnut gelding, King Maker, had to his credit two back- to-back victories in as many previous outings. Backed at even money favourite, King Maker was third in the early part of the race but he gradually collared front runners Key Guy Doll and Daisy Gold, twenty metres still to go from the winning post.

A ding-dong duel between King Maker and Key Guy Doll drew cheers from the fans as both passed the winning post locked together. Only magic eye of the camera could separate the two and declared King Maker won the race by a head’s margin. Daisy Gold and Green Hill completed the frame.

Trained by Mohammad Hanif the winner was piloted with perfection by Azam Hussain.

Jockey A Aziz rode Royal Command and When Or Where to easy wins in the third and fifth race while his apprentice Shakeel Mahmood partnered Shadow Snatcher and My Own Job in the opener and the sixth and last race.

Only three favourites obliged punters in a card of six races. All events were contested over the sprinting distance of 1200 metres.
