By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, July 24: Two more bodies of the family of eight, who had drowned on Saturday, were recovered on Sunday by rescue workers during a search operation.

Chief Fire Officer Kazim Ali said that 43 lifeguards of the Rescue Emergency Centre of the city government, 18 of the civil defence, and 33 of an NGO, participated in the search operation launched to retrieve three missing bodies of the eight that drowned on Saturday. “We have recovered two more bodies of Tahir and Ahsan,” he added.

Police said Tahir, 30, owned a garment shop in a shopping centre and Ahsan, 15, was a student of class nine. The bodies were handed over to the families concerned. The search operation to find another body continued.

Eight members of a family had drowned near Sandspit. Three children were initially swept away by the violent currents in the morning while five more members drowned when they jumped into the sea to rescue those drowning.

SUICIDE: A woman hanged herself from a ceiling fan at her home in Saudabad on Sunday.

Police said Shagufta, 24, mother of two, had frequent quarrels with her husband over domestic affairs related to financial constraints. She in utter depression might have decided to end her life and commit suicide.

A youth committed suicide at a cattle-pen in Baloch Colony police limits.

Police said Nadeem, 20, had come from Hyderabad a couple of days back and had joined the cattle-pen as a labour.

He was found hanged in his quarters. The body was sent to hospital for autopsy. Police could not find any motive behind the suicide immediately.
