GILGIT, July 22: A man who was shot at on Wednesday in clashes in Jutyal in the Gilgit city suburbs died on Friday in a Rawalpindi hospital, sources said. They said the deceased, Shakeel, had been badly injured in the firing. Police said another man, Abdullah Shah, was shot dead by unknown assailants on Thursday evening in Baseen, taking the death toll to 10 during recent wave of violence in Gilgit.
On Friday some markets, shops and offices reopened after three days tension in Gilgit but passengers remained under fear and avoided travel.
The sources said that the top administration of the region, including chief secretary, home secretary and inspector general of police, are in Islamabad and holding meetings for the last four days.
However the rangers and army have expedited patrolling on city roads as a part of enhanced security.
Sectarian violence that started on Sunday night following attacks on a passenger bus on Karakoram Highway near Chilas ignited clashes and firing between rival groups in the area.
