‘Malaysia and Pakistan believe in moderation’

KUALA LUMPUR, July 22: Malaysia and Pakistan are on the same wavelength regarding the need to promote a moderate Islam, former Prime Minister Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain said. Mr Shujat, who is also the president of the Pakistan Muslim League, said: “Just like Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, our president also believes in peace and moderation”.

He was talking to reporters after calling on PM Abdullah at the end of the first day of the 56th Umno General Assembly at Putra World Trade Centre on Thursday. Umno is leading ruling Barisan Nasional coalition.

About the recent bombings in London, Shujat said Pakistan and Malaysia shared the same stand that there was a need to find the root cause of terrorism.

“We have tried to influence the world, especially the Western powers, to go for the root cause of this issue,” he added.—APP
