Aqib humbles seeded Hindle

KARACHI, July 22: Reigning world junior champion, Ramay Ashour of Egypt, conceded just three points in securing a straight win over Pakistan’s Ahmed Hameed to advance to the next stage of qualifying rounds of Pakistan Open squash championship at the PN Roshan-Jahangir Khan squash complex on Friday. The world No 62 who is seeded 4th in the qualifiers needed only nine minutes to romp home 11-1, 11-1, and 11-1.

He is slated to meet Pakistan’s Amjad Khan on Saturday and a victory will ensure him a berth in the main rounds which begin at the DHA Asif Nawaz squash complex from Sunday.

The top two seeds for the qualifiers, Pakistan’s Shamsul Islam and Yasir Butt also advanced after getting first round byes.

Bradley Hindle of Australia, the eight seed, made an early exit losing to Aqib Hanif of Pakistan.

The world No 1 and top seed, Thiery Lincou of France, arrived on Friday. Couple of other seeded foreign players who were directly placed in the main round, have also reached here.

Ms Linda Davie, vice-president, UK Squash Federation, has also arrived on Friday. She is among the panel of referees who will supervise main round matches.

The qualifying round concludes on Saturday.
