HYDERABAD, July 22: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal staged a big demonstration outside the Aurangzeb mosque after Friday prayers to protest against a crackdown on seminaries and newspapers and detention of Ulema. The central leader of the MMA, Abul Khair Mohammad Zubair MNA said the enemies of Islam would always remain the enemies despite the policy of appeasement adopted by Gen Pervez Musharraf towards them.

He said the MMA’s high command would meet in Islamabad on July 27 to chalk out the future course of action against the government’s crackdown on seminaries, Ulema and journalists.

He said the government had itself conceded that seminaries in Pakistan were not imparting any training to terrorists, yet an operation had been launched against them.

The district president of the MMA, Maulana Abdul Waheed Qureshi said Ulema had rendered tremendous sacrifices in the creation of Pakistan and they would not allow the country to become a colony of America.

MIRPURKHAS: The MMA staged a demonstration outside the Madina Masjid after Friday prayers to protest the crackdown and arrest of ulema. Rangers and police had cordoned off the mosque at Shahi Bazar before the Friday prayers.

However, workers gathered outside the mosque and after the prayers raised slogans against the government.

Addressing the protesters, the district president of MMA, Hafizur Rehman, condemned the arrest of ulema and raids being conducted on the madressahs in the country. He lamented that over half a dozen ulema including Aslam Mujahid, Mufti Nizamuddin Shamzai, Mufti Atiqur Rehman were killed, instead nabbing their killers, the government was busy to implement the instructions of USA and carrying out a crackdown against the religious parties, ulema and students of the madressahs.

He demanded release of detained ulema and students of the religious institutions.
