KARACHI: Secretaries told to file affidavits: Detention case
KARACHI, July 22: The Sindh High Court on Friday directed the interior and defence secretaries to file their personal affidavits regarding detention of three activists of the Baloch Alliance. The court was hearing a petition by Mir Noor Jan whose son Imdad Baloch, a student of Bolan Medical College, Quetta, was allegedly taken away with six others by the police and law-enforcement agencies on March 26 from an apartment in Gulistan-i-Johar.
Petitioner’s counsel Abdul Hafeez Lakho said Imdad Baloch, with others party activists, agitating against the military operation in Balochistan, especially in tribal area of Dera Bugti, were attending party meeting when police raided the flat and whisked them away.
He informed the court that the petitioner’s son and three others, Yousuf, Ghulam Rasool and Dr Naseem Baloch, who were shown arrested by the Punjab police in a blind FIR in Dera Ghazi Khan, were later released and they returned to home last month.
But the whereabouts of the remaining three — Allah Nazar, Nawaz Ali and Akhtar Nadeem — were still unknown and it was not being disclosed by the LEA, he said.
On a previous hearing, the court the directed secretaries to submit their affidavits regarding detention of detainee. Standing counsel Tariq Ali told the court that he could not forward the orders of court to the concerned secretaries and sought time to do so.
SHC’s division bench, comprising Chief Justice Sabihuddin Ahmed and Justice Zia Pervaiz, granting request fixed the matter for July 28.
Meanwhile, the same court adjourned the hearing of a petition filed by the ex-Naval chief against ban on his travel abroad.
The matter could not proceed as petitioner’s counsel Azizullah K Sheikh was engaged before another bench. The court adjourned the hearing for a date to be fixed by the office.
Mansurul Haq said on account of placement of his name on the ECL by the FIA he was facing hardships as he wanted to go abroad for medical treatment and for performing Umera.—PPI
