19 die as bus overturns

ISLAMABAD, July 21: Nineteen people were killed and 27 others injured when a Lahore-bound bus overturned at Salt Range on Motorway on Thursday, police said. The bus (GTJ-33) carrying over 50 passengers, mostly tourists, was coming from Murree when it overturned near Kallar Kahar after the driver lost control over the steering-wheel due to failure of brakes, police said.

Fifteen passengers, including a woman, were killed on the spot while four of the 31 injured died in the DHQ hospital and the Fauji Foundation Hospital, Chakwal.

The condition of 17 injured was stated to be serious.

Ten of the deceased were identified as Rashid Ali, Irfan Ahmed, Tariq Hussain, Mohammad Arif, Syed Ahmed, Sobia Ijaz, Mohammad Daniyal Alam, Zahid Bashir, Jamshed Naimat and Wajid Hussain.
