SRINAGAR, July 21: Two bus passengers were killed and three others wounded on Thursday when they were caught in an exchange of fire between suspected militants and soldiers in occupied Kashmir, police said. The fire-fight, which lasted over 30 minutes, erupted after freedom fighters lobbed grenades at a security camp on the outskirts of Sopore town, north of Srinagar. The militants escaped. “Everybody was running for cover, traffic came to a standstill. Panic spread in the area,” a police official said.
The incident came a day after a suicide bomber drove into a military jeep in Srinagar, killing five people.
An army officer was killed and two other soldiers were injured during a clash in the Rajouri and suspected rebels shot dead an alleged army informer at a bus terminal in Anantnag..—Agencies
