SANGHAR, July 21: Leaders of the People’s Party Parliamentarians have accused police of kidnapping candidates to restrain them from filing nomination papers for the local bodies’ election. Talking to journalists, former district PPP president Sarfaraz Rajar, taluka president Khipro Haji Shams Din Hingorjo, Ali Hassan and Wasim Qaimkhani said Zulekhan, Abdul Rehman, Matar Bheel and Mumtaz Sheedi were coming to the court to file their nomination forms for the Khahi Union Council at about 10:45pm on Wednesday and when their car reached the court, Khipro investigation police in-charge Mubarak Rajar threw away the car driver and dumped male candidates in a police mobile. They added that two policemen sat in the car and drove it away.
They said police took them to a deserted place and kept on threatening them. They said the candidates were released at about 2am on Thursday. “How can this be a fair election as claimed by the government and the Election Commission?” they asked.
The PPP leaders alleged that all things had been set by the government to win the coming election at any cost and added that officers had been posted without merit to get their help in the polls.
TEACHERS: A group of high school teachers have levelled allegations against the staff of the National Bank, Sanghar branch.
They have sent complaints to the State Bank governor and the NBP president and also forwarded copies to President Gen Pervez Musharraf.
Noor Ahmad Chakrani and Abdul Qayoom Rajput of the Government High School, Jhol, alleged that a mafia was working in the bank.
They further alleged that the NBP staff had deputed their men and government employees had to pay Rs100 to them for getting a token to get their salary cheques encashed otherwise they were not allowed to enter the bank.
They accused the mafia of demanding Rs2,500 to Rs4,000 from employees to sanction them loans.
They said government employees had been taking out processions and staging sit-ins but to no avail.
