KARACHI, July 21: Judicial magistrate East Ghulam Farooq Shaikh remanded the former nazim of Orangi to police custody for interrogation in a double murder case. The Ferozabad police produced Mohammed Shahid Alam, better known as Guddu Bihari, in the court of the judicial magistrate and sought his 14-day custody, showing his arrest around 5:30am on Kashmir Road on Wednesday. The magistrate, however, gave the former nazim in police custody for seven days and ordered that the accused be produced before the court on July 26.
The case pertained to the killing of two women who were shot dead on Dec 23, 2003 at a bus stop near Tariq Road. The case was initially registered against unknown culprits.
The same magistrate remanded a man to police custody for interrogation till July 26.
Noor Alam was arrested by the Korangi police for playing speeches of Maulana Haq Nawaz Jhangvi on a tape-recorder.
IMTIAZ SHAIKH: The district and sessions judge, South, ordered the sacked provincial minister, Imtiaz Shaikh, to appear before the court on Aug 13 in a double murder case.
The court issued NBWs against co-accused Agha Asghar, Atique Siddqiui and Zakir.
Farid Ahmed Dayo, counsel for Imtiaz Shaikh, informed the court that his client had been granted bail in the case by the Sindh High Court. He submitted that the sacked minister was not present in the court as he was sick and was out of the city. The judge ordered Imtiaz Shaikh to appear before the court and produce his medical certificate on the next date of hearing.
