KARACHI, July 19: The district and sessions judge, West, Mohammad Javed Alam, issued on Tuesday notice to the superintendent of Central Prison on an application of contempt of court filed by the brother of former Orangi Town Nazim, who was reportedly handed to the police by the jail authorities. In his application, Dr Shahid Alam submitted to the court that Mohammed Shahid Alam, better known as Guddu Bihari, was ordered to be released by the court on Monday. However, he stated that instead of complying with the court’s release order, the jail authorities did not set him free.
He submitted that the jail authorities handed over the former town nazim to Town Police Officer, Orangi Town, Abdul Rashid Khan, and SHO of Pakistan Bazar Police Station, Haseebullha Qureshi, in violation of lawful orders of his release by the court.
Dr Alam, represented by Shahadat Awan, submitted that Guddu Bihari was a political opponent of the ruling party and he was intentionally handed to the “delinquent police officials as a result of conspiracy to eliminate him or to involve him in false cases.
The brother of former nazim stated that he had already sent a telegram to the court on Monday night mentioning the above facts.
He submitted that the jail authorities had violated the orders of his brother’s release and they were liable to be punished for contempt of court.
He further said the jail superintendent had abetted the kidnapping of his brother from jail.
The district and sessions judge, West, Mohammed Javed Alam, had issued on Monday the release order of the former nazim of Orangi Town nazim in an attempt to murder case after his mother refurnished the surety of the bail.
The town nazim was booked in as many as 20 cases. He was acquitted in eight cases and was granted bail in rest of the 12 cases. Guddu Bihari was initially arrested in late February 2004 by the ACE.
