PGF selects 6 probables for camp


KARACHI, July 18: Pakistan Golf Federation (PGF) on Monday finalized the names of six-probables from which a four-member national squad for Numera Cup will be picked. Probables were selected after a four-day trials which concluded at Arabian Sea Country Club on Sunday. The probables are: Vaqas Ahmed, Aadil Jehangir, Taimur Hasan, Muhammad Safdar, Daniyaal Jehangir and Muhammad Ali Hai.

The probables will now attend a four-day training camp starting at Islamabad Golf Club later this month and golfers will involve in stroke play and match play after which Pakistan’s four-member team will be named.

Asia Pacific Golf Championship for “Numera Cup” will be held at Tokoy’s Narita Golf Club from Sept 22 to 25.

Two fine rounds by Vaqas from Rawalpindi Golf Club gave him the top spot. After trailing in the first two rounds, Vaqas finished with an aggregate of 300 playing final round of two-over par.

Aadil of Lahore Gymkhana-first day’s leader, ended second with final of two-over 74.

Taimur Hasan, who played the best round of par 72 in the last round of 72-hole trials ended with a total of 308.

Aadil’s younger brother Daniyaal, a member of Hong Kong-bound Pakistan junior team, secured fifth spot at 314 while Muhammad Ali Hai of Karachi after a disappointing first two rounds, got into the probables’ list after firing a two-over 74.

Tariq Mahmood (317), Zulfiqar Ali (318), Moeed Yousuf (320), Ansar Mahmood (321) and Waseem Rana (325) finished in that order in the pack of 17 golfers who featured in the trials.—APP
