PESHAWAR July 18: NWFP Governor Khalilur Rehman has called for measures for granting the status of formal educational institutions to community schools in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas. Presiding over a meeting of the National Education Foundation and the Fata secretariat on Monday, the governor asked the authorities to provide necessary help to these institutions so that they became formal educational institutions in future.
Under a project some 350 community schools with 24,000 students on their roster have been working in Fata’s seven agencies. These institutions were set up at a cost of Rs448.76 million by NEF in collaboration with the Norwegian government.
The governor said the success of the community schools programme reflected the interest shown by the people of Fata.
Though these schools were established through joint efforts made by the NGOs, NEF and respective communities, ultimately the government will have to pick up all such projects for their future sustenance.
NEF chairman Sabeeh Qamruzzaman apprised the meeting about the role of the foundation in the establishment as well as running of these schools.

The meeting, held with the governor in the chair, noted that people were facing difficulties owing to the damage to the bridge.
The governor said the construction of a new bridge would take some time, but emphasized that the government should take emergent measures to restore the destroyed the link.
