KARACHI, July 18: Sindh Home Minister Rauf Siddiqi on Monday directed the CCPO Karachi to hand over an amount of Rs2.7 million to the Karachi Transport Ittehad within two days as charges of the vehicles requisitioned by the police for various duties. He issued these directives in a meeting with a 14-member delegation of the Karachi Transport Ittehad, led by its President Syed Irshad Hussain Bukhari.
In the meeting, the KTI office-bearers withdrew their strike call for July 21.
The meeting, convened by the Home Minister, was attended by representatives of the Ittehad besides CCPO Karachi, DIG Operations, SP Traffic Zones I-IV.
The meeting discussed a three-point agenda with regard to transporters’ July 21 strike.
Regarding diesel prices, the minister told the delegation that this issue pertains to federal government and, therefore, their concern over this would be communicated to the federal authorities.
Regarding compensation for vehicles burnt during violence following blast at Madinat-ul-Ilm, Rauf Siddiqi asked the DCO Karachi to hold an immediate meeting with KTI and prepare a report concerning all pending payments and send the same to him so that it could be taken up in the provincial cabinet for approval for making payment by the finance department.
The home minister asked the CCPO Karachi to take strict action against police personnel who seize vehicles. He said that whenever required, the vehicles be requisitioned from the Karachi Transport Ittehad.
He asked the transporters not to support the drivers who indulge in negligent driving.—APP
