Bang On Target sprints home
KARACHI, July 17: Favourite Bang On Target did his owner Shah Mardan Shah Pir Pagara as well as trainer Mumtaz Ali proud when he sprinted to victory in the last event of the day at the Summer Gymkhana Race Meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.
Jittery in the beginning with jockey Muhammad Essa in the saddle, the six-year old bay mare surged past Fantasia to pick up the spoils winning by three lengths.
Three year-old Fantasia ridden by jockey Sajid Hussain and six-year old bay Donatello finished second and third respectively in the pack of eleven competitors.
Displaying superior skills, riding boy Waheed Baran also stole the limelight performing a fine double. First he rode home thoroughbred Royal Leader beating Knock First by 3 ½ lengths in the second race followed by Lady Freedom’s triumph in the next. Both the wins surprised the pundits.
Earlier, the opening race of the afternoon meeting saw half bred bay mare Roop Ki Rani carrying 9-0 weight on her back, winning top honours. She won by 2 ¼ lengths. She was chased by On The Run and Little Sunny for the next two positions.
Queen Of Sanghar, ridden by jockey Ghulam Shabbir 11, made it two in a row when she emerged victorious in the sixth race with twelve horses in the fray. The three-year old bay filly was followed by Haseena-e-Arab and Snake River respectively.
Not To Worry and Bilal Choice, both ranked outsiders, obliged their owners Hashim Abbas and S. Ali respectively, when they outpaced their opponents in the fifth and sixth races.
One punter clinched the jackpot which was introduced by the Karachi Racecourse management on Sunday. He pocketed around Rs 26,000.
