PML urges MMA to review Hasba Bill

By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, July 17: Pakistan Muslim League Central Vice- President Syed Kabir Ali Wasti on Sunday expressed surprise and shock over what he called ‘highly provocative’ statements being made by some Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) leaders and feared that these might have serious implications.

Calling for sanity and restraint, the PML leader, in a statement issued here, said a grave situation was emerging that might put into jeopardy the existing political structure.

He said the MMA leadership had already isolated itself from other political forces and civil society activists by recklessly bringing the Hasba Bill which had revived the spectre of Talibanization in the country. They must review the bill and stop issuing inflammatory statements, he added.

The PML leader urged all political parties and democratic forces to rise above narrow political prejudices, work for mutual understanding and save the system from being disrupted by non- political forces.

Mr Wasti referred to MMA Chief Qazi Hussain Ahmed’s statement in Lahore on Saturday, warning the government against dissolution of the NWFP Assembly.

Mr Qazi thought it fit to point out that every house in the province has arms. “This is a veiled threat of an armed resistance,” Mr Wasti said.
