Chamkani, Jinnah move into next round


PESHAWAR, July 16: Jinnah Club and Chamkani Club advanced to next round after securing victories in the Inter-club hockey championship at Lala Ayub Hockey Complex on Saturday.

Jinnah Club defeated Palosi 4-3 in a thrilling encounter while Chamkani Club recorded an upset win over Prince Civil Quarters 5-3 in another hotly- contested battle.

Jinnah grabbed lead in the 12th minute through inside-right Nazim Khan. Tariq doubled it in 15th minute on a field attempt.

Palosi, too, made some combined moves after going two goals down. Asghar reduced margin while Shahjehan tied it 2-2 in the dying moments of the first-half.

After the resumption of second-half, Palosi were put ahead by full-back Bukhtiar who sounded the board with his powerful hit. But after a short while Jinnah tied it 3-3 when left-winger Karam netted a fine goal.

In the 67th minute Karam scored his second and team’s decisive goal on a field attempt to make it 4-3.

Palosi tried their hard to level the score but failed and the match went to Jinnah.

In the other match Chamkani Club upset Prince Civil Quarters 5-3. Jehanzaib scored two goals converting penalty corners in the 6th and 13th minutes to put Chamkani 2-0 ahead.

In 19th minute Prince Civil Quarters’ full-back Ijaz Khan and Amjad scored one goal each to pull level 2-2.

Shahzaib, Khalid and Imran slammed one goal each for the winners in the 28th, 30th and 41st minute to make the score 5-2. The losers’ Nasir Khan slammed a goal in the 69th minute but only to reduce the margin.—APP
