GUJRANWALA, July 16: The Punjab government approved 50 more vacancies of doctors and paramedical staff for the DHQ hospital, besides provision of funds for renovation of wards and purchaze of medicines. The hospital has also been upgraded by adding 50 more beds to its existing 450 beds.

This was stated by Medical Superintendent Dr Nisar Ahmad Cheema at a briefing held here on Saturday.

He said Rs100 million would be spent on installation of scan machine and other equipment at the hospital, besides repairs of old machinery.

He claimed the hospital had been made corruption-free following removal of 18 doctors and paramedical staff for their alleged involvement in irregularities.

He added the hospital’s four out-of-order ambulances had been got repaired, while the telephone exchange was also made functional.

He claimed that the destitute were being provided free medicines at the hospital.

GETS DEATH: A court handed down death sentence to a murder accused along with Rs100,000 fine here on Saturday.

According to the prosecution, the accused, Zulfikar, had killed Rabia Bibi over a property dispute in Satellite Town some two yeas ago.

He will have to undergo six-month imprisonment in case of nonpayment of fine.

Reports said one Shafiq was on his way to Khewaywali village, along with his sister and aunt by a motorcycle, when a speeding car coming from opposite direction hit them. As a result, Zohra Bibi and Hanifan Bibi died on the spot, while Shafiq was admitted to the local DHQ hospital in critical condition.
