25 proposals for thermal projects received

ISLAMABAD, July 16: The Private Power and Infrastructure Board (PPIB) has received more than 25 proposals for three 1,200MW thermal power projects. Sources said various national and multinational groups and consortiums had submitted their proposals along with statement of qualifications. The sponsors of these groups are from the UK, US, Middle East and some other European countries. The list of investors along with their proposals for the thermal projects would be released on Monday.

The projects would be awarded through international competitive bidding to be held after the recommendations of the evaluation committee and the approval of the PPIB board. They stated that the bidding was likely to be held in September.

The PPIB had announced three thermal projects of 1,200MW worth $3 billion to be set up in Faislabad, Lahore and Uch. The last date for submission of proposals was July 15.

The PPIB had also organized road shows in Dubai and London to attract foreign investment for these three projects. The PPIB is optimistic that due to this encouraging response from foreign companies the project would materialize and would be completed on time to meet the projected demand of electricity for the country.—APP
