ISLAMABAD, July 16: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has approved a Rs35 million project for development of infrastructure and improvement of facilities at the Comsats Institute of Information Technology, Abbottabad campus. A statement issued here on Saturday said under the project, extension would be made to the campus building to house the engineering block. It said the new engineering block would comprise 16 classrooms, four labs and 54 faculty offices.
The project also aims at improving water supply and sanitation facilities, besides furnishing, it added.
The statement said infrastructure developed through the project and enabling environment on the campus would enhance the learning and research opportunities at the institution.
It will not only help produce quality manpower and professionals, but also improve academic infrastructure to meet the required international standards of higher education.
The project will also help provide higher education facilities to the students of the CIIT Abbottabad campus and adjoining areas in particular and to the students from other parts of the country and AJK in general.
At present, approximately 1,380 students are enrolled in bachelors and master’s programmes in engineering, computer sciences, IT, management and social sciences.
Faculty strength at the CIIT Abbottabad is 100 and staff is 88. There are 10 classrooms, four computer labs, a hardware lab, an electronic lab, a microprocessor lab, a networking lab, a library having over 7,000 books, a 200-bed boys hostel, a 70-bed girls hostel and necessary sports facilities.
An administrative block is also under construction to house offices of planning and development, administrative and accounts staff, examination, registration, coordination and procurement.—APP
