ISLAMABAD, July 16: The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has collected Rs47.5 billion as central excise duty (CED) on five items during the fiscal 2004-05 as against Rs41.4 billion the previous year, showing an increase of 14.7 per cent.
Official data available with Dawn showed that the CED collection from these five major revenue spinners contributed more than 87 per cent in the total collection during the year 2004-05 over the corresponding year.
The statistics showed that the CBR raised Rs11.1bn as CED from cement during the year under review against Rs9.4bn the previous year, an increase of 17.7pc.
The CED collection from natural gas increased by 2.4 per cent to Rs5.7 billion during the year under review against Rs5.5 billion the previous year.
From cigarettes it showed an increase of 19 per cent to Rs21.9 billion during the year as against Rs18.4 billion.
Collection of CED from POL products increased by 6.9pc to Rs4.3bn during the year compared to Rs4bn the previous year.
The CED collection on beverages and concentrate increased by 12.7pc to Rs4.5bn during the year under review as against Rs4bn of the previous year. The tax authorities raised Rs5.4bn in 2004-05 from other small products compared to Rs4.2bn in 2003-04, an increase of 28.4pc.
