RAWALPINDI, July 15: The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) member sales tax, Shahid Ahmad, said the taxation system would be computerized by 2007. Discussing matters relating to sales tax in wake of changes in the budget with the office-bearers of the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI), Mr Ahmad said the CBR would admit sales tax registration cases recommended by the RCCI without any delay or further scrutiny.

He said the textile sector had been declared zero-rated in the budget, adding that the move had left positive impacts on the industry, particularly smaller units.

RCCI President Najam Rashid told the CBR member that taxpayers were facing some problems in depositing their tax in banks owing to different NTN numbers in new automated data provided by the CBR to banks.—PPI
