ISLAMABAD, July 15: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has approved Rs35 million project to provide student services to Air University, Islamabad. Under this project, Air University would have an auditorium, counselling hall, placement centre, cafeteria, admission and registration office, common room, hobbies club and tuck shops. According to the HEC here on Friday, the project will provide services to nearly 1,500 students and have a covered area of nearly 24,000 square feet.

These services were urgently required by the university so that students could be given facilities like student counselling, common room and cafeteria.

Using these, they will be able to participate in extra curricular activities besides their regular studies.

It is a matter of fact that a lot of emphasis is given to the higher education while one area remains neglected which is grooming the character of the students.

This is ignored in their school and college life and the deficiency continues as they enter the university level.

There is a need to continuously interact with students and to have intensive counselling sessions where they realize the importance of blending ethics into their professional education.

The guest speakers and the faculty could play an important role in grooming students.

Through the project, a central place like a hall with sufficient capacity will be available to the university to conduct these activities.

This is where the students of all disciplines could get a chance to mingle with each other. Some events like public speaking should also be organized where students meet and interact with students from other universities and develop friendship.—APP
