BEIJING, July 15: China and Pakistan have agreed to set up a joint working group to expedite work on Thar coal project and an agreement to this effect was arrived at a meeting held between Chinese Commerce Minister Bo Xilai and his Pakistani counterpart Humayun Akhtar Khan.
The two sides also agreed on early establishment of a joint investment company for undertaking development projects in various areas of bilateral interest.
During the meeting held on the sidelines of the WTO ministerial meeting this week, the two ministers exchanged greetings on successful conclusion of joint study on Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and signing of Early Harvesting Programme (EHP), hoping these would give a big boost to their bilateral trade.
Humayun Akhtar noted that Chinese businessmen have performed well and played an important role in the economic progress of Pakistan, by undertaking many joint ventures.
He briefed his Chinese counterpart about the importance of Thar Coal project that is situated in the country’s remote area and could contribute to the betterment of the local people.
The two ministers also agreed to enhance bilateral trade through the land route by improving transportation facilities to their businessmen.—APP
