TMA employees without salaries

Published July 15, 2005

FAISALABAD, July 14: The Tehsil Municipal Administration (City) has reportedly failed to disburse salaries for the month of June to its employees for paucity of funds. TMA sources revealed that after the dissolution of local bodies, the government deputed senior bureaucrats as caretakers to run the affairs of local councils. Owing to a strict financial policy, they said the TMA (City) caretaker was avoiding to sign cheques of different projects and official expenditures.

Similarly, they said the provincial government had stopped the payment of funds to local councils adding that caretakers had no right to spend or allocate funds for different purposes.

Funds for salaries of TMA (City) employees had not been released by higher authorities for the last couple of weeks.

They further said that TMA employees had been facing varied problems on account of non-payment of their salaries.

When contacted, TMA’s finance section officials confirmed that no funds had so far been received for the disbursement of salaries to employees.

TMA employees have urged the Punjab chief minister to take stock of the situation and direct local council officials to pay their salaries immediately.
