KARACHI: Six more bodies arrive

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, July 14: Six more bodies of the ill-fated train passengers who died in Wednesday’s train tragedy, were shifted from Ghotki to Karachi on Thursday. Officials of the Edhi Foundation said the bodies of Naeemunnisa and Mehrunnisa, were handed to their relatives in Gulshan-i-Iqbal. The body of Zaeem, a 22-year-old student, was handed to his parents in Saudabad. Wahab, 3, whose body arrived on Thursday belonged to New Karachi, while Jahangir’s body was delivered in Model Colony. Heera Masih’s body was handed to his relatives in Naval Colony.

Rizwan Edhi said the bodies, which could not be identified, would be buried in Ghotki on Friday. He said the farmers in a village had donated land for the mass burial. Besides, he said the Edhi Foundation shifted 25 bodies to their native places in Kharian, Multan, Gujrat, Chakwal and Gujranwala. The foundation provided them with coffin. He said 30 truck-loads of ice was provided to hospitals on Thursday.

He said the foundation provided drinking water, milk and juices to those who had been looking for their loved ones.

Zaeem was the final year student of the NED University of Engineering and Technology and was going with his four friends to the Northern Areas. His friend and neighbour Mansoor, who survived, said they were asleep when an explosion occurred.

“I was not in my senses and when I regained conciousness, I found that there was a complete darkness allaround. I did not understand what had happened. I removed goods, which fell on me and managed to get out of the train. I heard hue and cry of people, and then I realized that it was an accident.”

He said he searched his friends and found one of them. One of my friends had died while another had suffered injuries.
