KARACHI: Student’s body washed ashore

KARACHI, July 14: The body of a student, who had drowned on Wednesday, was retrieved on Thursday by the lifeguards of the City Government’s emergency rescue centre, with the help of an NGO, and coast guards. Ehsan Elahi and Qamar Mughni, O-Level students of a local institution, had gone for fishing and the two drowned near Kanupp. The body of Ehsan was retrieved the same day, but Qamar’s body could not be retrieved.

Chief Fire Officer Kazim Ali said on the directives of DCO Karachi, a team of lifeguards resumed operation on Wednesday under his direct supervision.

The body was found from caves near Kanupp as the area was rocky. The body was intact and was retrieved in the afternoon. It was handed over to the victim’s father Colonel (retd) Mughni.

Mr Kazim said the operation was carried out with 150-member team, including 46 lifeguards, 12 fire fighters, 25 volunteers of an non-governmental organization, and divers of Coast Guards. A helicopter of the Coast Guard also participated in the operation, he added.

KILLED: A bus conductor was shot dead by unidentified people over a petty dispute in an Uthal-bound bus in Saeedabad on Thursday.

Gul Mohammad had refrained four people from sitting in the women’s compartment in a bus on which he was shot dead by the four.

ACCIDENTS: Two people died in road accidents in Mauripur and Nazimabad here on Thursday.

Mauripur police said a truck hit a motorcycle on Hawkesbay road. Two men on the motorbike fell to the ground and suffered injuries.

They were taken to a hospital where one of them, Musharraf, 28, a resident of Liaquatabad, was pronounced dead on arrival. His friend Mohammad Hanif, 25, was admitted to the hospital.

In another accident in Nazimabad, the police said an unknown vehicle hit the two motorcyclists and sped away near Gulab Mor in the wee hours on Thursday. Mohammad Ramzan, 16, died and his friend Bilal, 15, received injuries.
