Wajid and Asma to defend crowns

LAHORE, July 13: Over 120 men and women shuttlers will compete in seven different events of the All-Pakistan 8th Ameer Abdullah Khan Rokhari badminton tournament scheduled to be held at the New Khan hall from July 17 to 24.

Pakistan Badminton Federation (PBF) secretary Amir Hayat Khan Rokhari said on Wednesday that cash prize of Rs 120,000 would be up for grabs.

The affiliated units of the federation Wapda, National Bank, PIA, PTCL, New Khan, Karachi Port Trust, Army, Railway, Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, NWFP, Islamabad and Fata had confirmed the entries.

The men and women will compete in the team, individual, doubles and mixed doubles. Wajid Ali is the defending champion of men’s singles while Asma Butt of women.

Similarly, Wapda will defend the title in the team’s event. The organizing committee would provide boarding and lodging to all the provincial teams.

Amir is the organizing committee chairman while Najaf Hameed is his deputy. Tayyab Sohail is the secretary of the organizing committee. Khawaja Akhtar Abbas is the director technical while Shahnawaz Malik is the tournament director.

The draws committee is headed by Fazal Azeem Wasti while tournament coordinator is Waseem Ahmad.

Anwar Saeed is the chief referee and Azhar Javed is his deputy.

PUNJAB TEAM: Meanwhile, the Punjab men and women’s teams have been announced for the competition. The men team includes former national champion Ali Yar Baig, Mohammad Khalid, Mohammad Shahzad, Usman Ahmad, Javed Hasan, Abdul Hameed, Kashif, Asif Baig. The women team comprises Kiran Kaleem, Naina Nisar, Sehar, Ayesha and Anam Khan.
