Major train accidents in Pakistan


SUKKUR, July 13: Five major railway accidents from 1953 to 1992 have claimed 744 lives in Pakistan. In 1953, some 200 people were killed in a railway accident at Jhampeer. In 1954, 60 people were killed in an accident at Jung Shahi. In 1969, 80 people were killed in the Liaqat Pur railway accident.

On January 3, 1990, 350 people were killed in an accident at Sangi, some 15km from Sukkur, which is said to be the biggest accident in Pakistan.

In 1992, 54 people were killed in an accident at the Ghotki railway station.—Correspondent
