QUETTA, July 13: The Frontier Corps has abolished its 66 per cent checkpoints in different areas of Balochistan and shifted the remaining posts close to the border for strict vigil. This was informed at a two-day Commandants Conference concluded here on Tuesday at the FC Headquarters. The Inspector General Frontier Corps Balochistan, Major General Shujaat Zamir Dar, presided over the moot which was attended by all commandants of FC wings.

It reviewed the law and order situation in the province and administrative affairs in detail and also discussed ways to make security measures at border posts stricter and more effective, in keeping with the recommendations of the parliamentary committee.

The conference was informed that the Shela Bagh checkpoint had been opened to traffic for providing travel facility to people even at night. The FC conducted vehicle checking at the post periodically.

The moot discussed the FC’s anti-drug and anti-gunrunning measures and decided to tighten them further. More attention will be given to border security, the conference resolved.

With reference to the anti-smuggling role of the FC, the conference was informed that the force had abolished its 66 per cent checkpoints established in different areas of the province while the remaining posts were keeping a vigil in border areas.

Speaking on the occasion, Major-General Shujaat Zamir Dar said that at present 13 units and 43 wings of the FC were performing duty of guarding Balochistan. He added that 15 more units and 10 more wings would be established by next year.

The FC was making efforts to induct local youths into the force, with 3000 having already joined it. Some 7000 more youths would be inducted into the FC, he said.
