Jansher criticizes PSF policies

Bureau Report

PESHAWAR, July 12: Former world champion Jansher Khan declared on Tuesday that no Pakistani player would be able to make it to the top-10 ranking of the world in the next 20 years if the Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) continued present policies.

“The PSF should change its attitude towards the players so the country could restore its lost image in the game,” he said while talking to reporters on Tuesday.

He said that it was regrettable on part of the PSF that it had written to the Indian Squash Federation (ISF) asking it not to allow Farhan Mehboob to play there because it had made commitment with him.

“It is all the more surprising that the PSF places ban on a player like Farhan who has bright prospects of becoming a future world champion,” he said, adding that if this practice was not abandoned, there would be no players in the next 20 years to reach the top 10 ranking in the world.

On the contrary, he said the Indian players were improving because the ISF as well as the government were paying heed to the needs of players.

“The PSF should refrain from misusing its power. President Pervez Musharraf should intervene to put things on the right track,” he added.

He also said that coach Rehmat Khan was living in fool’s paradise when be claimed that Pakistan would attain the world champion’s slot.

Jansher said that Pakistan had produced top players in squash and it was time ripe for reconsideration of the policy adopted by the federation to restore the lost glory.
