Indian vessel owners told to meet safety requirements

KARACHI, July 11: The Indian vessel, m.v. Orient Prosperity, has been detained for necessary repairs and corrective measures and the owners have been advised to comply with mandatory requirements for the safety of life and property before sailing out of Karachi port. Under the directive of director general, ports and shipping Captain Anwar Shah, the principal officer, Mercantile Marine Department, Ministry of Ports and Shipping, deputed a surveyor to carry out ‘port state inspection’ of the vessel in accordance with the IMO Assembly Resolution A787(19) and amendment adopted by Resolution A882(21) and as per provisions of applicable international convention.
During the course of ‘port state inspection’, 33 deficiencies were found which if not attended could seriously jeopardize the safety of vessel and life of people on board.
