Legal action threatened over passport issue

By Our Staff Reporter

LAHORE, July 11: Former prime minister Mian Nawaz Sharif has threatened to take legal action against the country’s consul-general in Jeddah if he continues to prevaricate on the question of renewing his passport. A letter sent to the consul-general by Mr Sharif’s son-in–law Mohammad Safdar on his behalf gives details of how he was called to the consulate on various occasions and every time sent back with a new appointment.

He referred to a statement made by the interior minister that the consul-general had the power to renew the passport.

“I, on behalf of the applicants (Mr Sharif and his wife), regret to convey that in case such failure to act on your part continues, we shall take all legal steps necessary, whether at this stage or at another appropriate time, to ensure that all those who violate the constitution are brought to justice,” he said in the letter.
