NAWABSHAH, July 11: The district administration is monitoring the passage of water from the Mud Bund and has established 10 relief and medical camps at schools. This was stated by DCO Abdul Razzaq Qureshi while briefing journalists at the embankment. The DCO along with a team of journalists visited the Mud Bund, some 32 kilometres off here, on Monday.

Qazi Ahmad irrigation assistant executive engineer Zareef Iqbal Khero said four places – 92 Miles, 98 Miles, Chararo Dhoro and the Mud Bund – were sensitive in the Nawabshah district.

He said about 200,000 cusecs of water was passing from the Mud Bund on Monday and there was a low flood situation. He further said about 27,000 cubic feet stone had been pitched at the bund to strengthen it.

He said another 400,000 cusecs of water would pass from the area on July 15.

He said the secretary for irrigation had also visited the site on Monday and issued directives to pitch 200,000 cubic feet stone at sensitive places.

The EDO, health, Dr Ali Nawaz Khoso, informed the journalists that 300 patients had been provided with medicines at medical camps along the bund, adding that all medicines, including anti-snake venom, were available.

Lt-Col Kamran from the Pano Aqil cantonment told Dawn that the army would also visit the bund to look after arrangements.

WALK: The district population welfare department organized a walk from the H. M. Khoja High School to the press club and held a camp on Monday to observe the World Population Day.
