KARACHI, July 11: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) would start its mass contact campaign from Tuesday in view of local bodies elections to be held in August this year, announced Deputy Convenor of MQM, Dr Farooq Sattar, here on Monday. At a press conference here at MQM headquarters, he said although the MQM is not participating in the elections as these are non- party based, it is gearing up to guide people about candidates who possess qualities of leadership, enjoy a good reputation in society and have a desire to serve masses.
Dr Farooq Sattar said during the campaign, MQM’s Senators, MNAs, MPAs, federal and provincial ministers, advisors and workers from all tiers of the party would visit houses, markets, mosques, other places of worship in towns, cities and localities.
They would also listen to grievances of the people and their solution would be an integral part of the mass contact campaign, said Dr Farooq Sattar.
The Deputy Convenor MQM said every political party shall contribute to improvement of atmosphere before the polls for local bodies and once again extended a hand of cooperation to Jamaat-i- Islami (JI).
“We are still ready to go to Idara Noor-i-Haq and to offices of other political parties in the interest of democracy and to ensure a conducive atmosphere for elections to local bodies as these would empower the poor middle class to govern their own areas, he said.—APP
