KARACHI, July 11: The police on Monday arrested a terrorist from Manghopir area. The police were scanning the area in search of a gang involved in a bank dacoity when they received a tip about the presence of four armed suspects in Al-Ghazi Villas, bungalow No 364 near Blue Bell Academy in Sector 1/A/4. According to the police, when the police reached near the bungalow, the accused present inside opened fire.

The police also returned the fire and arrested an accused Jamil Abbas, with a TT pistol and two explosive rods.

However, his three other accomplices, identified as Syed Akbar, Syed Hasham Raza and Kazim made their good escape under the cover of exchange of fire.

During preliminary interrogation, the accused confessed that he had obtained training in terrorism.

He said he along with other absconders was undergoing training in conducting blasts, when a heavy bomb went off killing, Wahab Ali, Ashiq Ali, Wazir Ali and Mudassar on the spot and he himself was seriously injured and arrested by the force. He said at present he was on bail.

He informed that whole programme was chalked out by Syed Azhar Ali who used to bear all expenses during training.

The accused have made important disclosures in connection with the killing of Maulana Atiqur Rehman. Further interrogation of the accused is in progress.—APP
