LAHORE, July 10: Jockeys M. Zeeshan and A. Aziz shared the racing honours during the Lahore Summer Meeting by bringing home a brace of winners each at the Racecourse when a card of six races was gone through on Sunday.
Jockey M. Zeeshan partnered three to one chance bay filly, Russian Rythm in the second race.
He defeated Bosra Sham by two lengths. Princess Afaq finished third, five-and-a-half lengths further behind while the 40 to 100 favourites chestnut filly, First Passion ran dismally to complete the board among 16 runners.
Zeeshan completed his double in the following race when he sailed in 3 to 2 favourite dark-bay filly, Little Hut, who defeated Royal Performance by half-a-length. Savera and Bahar-i-Bhakkar completed the frame.
In all, a dozen ran for the event.
Jockey A. Aziz opened his debut with a fluent win on rank outsider bay colt, Kamran The Great, defeating 20 to 100 favourite, Bone Crusher by about two lengths in the fourth race.
Green Hill and Happy Moon finished third and fourth, respectively. Later Aziz demonstrated a fine saddle skill in the feature and sixth race when riding Fakhar-i-Bhakkar to edged out Young Emperor at the finishing post to win a short-head verdict and complete his well deserved double.
The Lahore Race Club stewards were not satisfied with the performance of 40 to 100 favourite Lovely Diana in the opener.
The mare, Lady Diana ran fifth behind Beautiful Bee, Easy Come Easy Go, Dogar’s Gift and Shadow Snatcher in the same order.
They questioned the rider, M. Jehangir and not being satisfied with his explanation warned him off for two months.
They also suspended the licence of jockey Aamar Parvaiz, for his unsatisfactory riding on Bone Crusher, who was beaten by Silver Queen on Tuesday last when Sunday’s postponed races were held on July 5 last.
After the race that day the stewards had ordered the LRC secretary, Ata Ali Khan, to hold an enquiry and on his report, the stewards announced their verdict before the start of Sunday’s races.
The stewards’ decision was greatly appreciated by the race-goers because such verdicts not only strengthened race-goers confidence in the LRC management but also helped in improving the standard of racing and cleaning the equine sport.
Only one favourite obliged the punters when a card of six races was gone through in the afternoon.
The only favourite to win was chestnut filly, High Dream, a 70 to 100 favourite, who beat Where Or When by about four lengths in the supporting and fifth race.
Jockey Javed Iqbal rode the filly in a runaway style.
